Prof. Shan Xiangshuang

Professor. Shan XianShuang, Founder, CEO, Chairman of the Board

Professor. Shan is the Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of CSM and the Chairman of the board of directors of its general partner, GSM Capital International. 

He is widely regarded as a pioneer of venture capitalists in China. Prior to founding GSM, he has worked at the State Education Commission of China, the Ministry of Communication of China, and as a senior banker at China Merchants Securities. In 2000, he founded China Science and Merchants (CSM), currently a firm with over US$1 billion under management. He has personally invested in over 40 companies in China and has a proven track record of creating value for LPs.

He is the Chairman of China Growth Enterprise CEO Committee and the Transport Investment & Financing Professional Committee of China, the Secretary–General of China Industrial Fund 50 Wits Forum, and the vice president of Beijing Private Equity Association.

He has received numerous awards and honors for his contribution to China’s venture capital and private equity industries. He was voted by major business journals and associations as China’s Top 10 Venture Entrepreneur, China’s New Economy Annual Figure, China’s Outstanding Venture Capitalist, China Top 10 Most Influential Venture Capitalist (Rank #1), and China Top 10 Entrepreneurial Leader.

Mr. Shan is a guest professor at Xiamen University and at The University of Texas, and is the Vice Director of the Venture Capital Research Center at Beijing University. He graduated from Xiamen University in Accounting in 1988.

Mr. John Wang

General Partner

Mr. Wang is a General Partner of CSM International and a Managing Director of CSM China. Mr. Wang was responsible for fund raising, identifying, screening and evaluating investment opportunities for CSM. He specialized in energy, TMT, Telecommunication, IT and software/new technology application sectors.

Before joining CSM, Mr. Wang was a Managing Director of Platinum Capital Management, Ltd, and GP of Sino Synergy Partners, Ltd, a Beijing based consulting firm specialized in China Government Affairs. He was responsible for the development and management of government relations for clients in China. Mr. Wang has over 15 years’ experience in a senior level position in the Chinese government.

Before founding Sino Synergy, Mr. Wang was the General Manager of Symantec Corporation (NASD: SYMC) in China, where he managed over 100 engineers and programmers to localize and distribute Symantec’s software products in China.

He has a Master Degree in Computer Science from UCLA and a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from China Defense Science & Tech. University.




Dr. Jerry Song

General Partner

Dr. Song is a General Partner of CSM Capital International and a Managing Director of CSM Investment. With his influence and connections in China’s banking industry and corporate communities, he is responsible for CSM’s fund raising, deal development and oversees direct equity investment, acquisition, international listing and international cooperation. He holds several directorships including Platinum Capital Management, Ltd, Millennium Capital Partners, Global E-Venture and USX China Stock Index. He is a co-founder and the co-chairman of China Education Network, Inc. He has been a key Wall Street advisor for several milestones listing of Chinese companies in the US since 1995.

Dr. Song has taught finance and capital market theories at the University of Texas, China’s Tongji Univ., Xi’an Jiaotong Univ., and Beijing University of Science and Technology. He has also taught investment theory and merger and acquisition for China’s State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), China Institute of Finance and Banking of the People’s Bank of China, and the executive training center of the Ministry of Finance of China. In his academic career, he has trained over 200 bankers and fund managers from China’s leading investment banking firms and fund management companies, and over 2,000 senior executives from China’s Fortune 100 companies.

Dr. Song received his Ph.D. degree in Finance from the University of Mississippi and did his doctoral study in Management Science at the University of California, Irvine.
